Bashneft Increased Investments in Environmental Protection by 16% In 2021

Bashneft, a part of the Rosneft oil company, spent more than 6.5 billion rubles on environmental economics measures in 2021, which is 16% more than a year earlier, local media reported.

As a result of implementing several projects, the total load on the atmosphere decreased by 10%. The maximum effect in this direction was achieved in the oil production block – up to 16%.

The practical use of associated petroleum gas in the central region of the company’s activity, Bashkortostan, reached 97% against 95%.

Also, investments were directed to the safe disposal of industrial waste, land reclamation, forest restoration and replenishment of fish resources, the press service of Rosneft reports.

An important role in minimizing the impact on the environment is played by the modernization of the Ufa oil refining complex enterprises. Thus, it was possible to achieve complete utilization of hydrogen sulfide-containing gas at the company’s refinery. It is processed into sulfur, widely used in various industries.

Last year, the volume of disposal of oily waste increased by 26%, exceeding 196 thousand tons. In comparison, the volume of accumulated oil sludge decreased by 11%. Also, in 2021, Bashneft reclaimed over 16 hectares of land in the oil field development area.

In addition to improving the environmental friendliness of production, the company is protecting ecosystems and restoring biodiversity. Last year, as part of this activity, Bashneft released more than 672,000 valuable fish fry into the water bodies of Bashkortostan, Tatarstan, the Perm Territory, the Nenets, and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrugs. More than 3.6 million coniferous seedlings were planted in the regions of presence.

Preserving the environment for future generations is an integral part of the corporate culture of Rosneft and its subsidiaries. The company aims to achieve a leadership position in minimizing the impact on the environment and environmental friendliness of production.
