TDK Starts Using 100% Renewable Energy in Four Japanese Plants

TDK Corporation says that beginning in April 2022, it will operate four electronic component facilities in Japan with 100 percent green electricity supplied by renewable energy by subscribing to Yorisou renewable energy supplied by Tohoku Electric Power Co., Ltd.

Targets include TDK Akita Corporation’s Inakura Factory (Nikaho City, Akita Prefecture) and Iwaki Factory (Yurihonjo City, Akita Prefecture), as well as TDK Shonai Corporation’s Sakata Factory (Sakata City, Yamagata Prefecture) and Tsuruoka East Factory (Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture).

With the addition of these four plants to TDK-Lambda Corporation’s Nagaoka Technical Center (Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture), which is a manufacturing base for power sources for industrial machinery that has been using renewable energy since July 2021, renewable energy is expected to account for approximately 9% of total electricity consumption.

The Company has expressed its goals in TDK Environmental Vision 2035 of attaining social value (increasing the company’s social worth) and establishing a sustainable and successful society for all people by operating with an environmental burden that does not disrupt the natural cycle.

The Company is taking steps to achieve a renewable energy share of at least 50% of total power consumption by fiscal 2025. As part of this project, TDK Corporation’s four plants will convert the power they consume to renewable energy, resulting in zero CO2 emissions. The business will continue to pursue strategies to increase the use of renewable energy at its local and international production plants.

The TDK Group will continue to pursue initiatives targeted at decreasing its global environmental footprint, such as reducing CO2 emissions, water consumption, and wastewater volumes related to manufacturing operations, in all of its business activities in order to achieve long-term development. Through these actions, the firm will strive hard to accomplish the TDK Group’s sustainability mission of “Technology for the Well-Being of All.”
