India took steps to meet climate goals

UAE wants to work with India on renewable energy projects

The climate ambassador for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the conference’s elected president announced on Wednesday that his country would look into all possible partnership opportunities with India. UAE wants to support the south Asian nation’s growth and low-carbon aspirations through renewable energy projects.

Sultan al-Jaber said at the World Sustainable Development Summit in New Delhi that India’s intention to add 500 gigawatts of clean energy over the following seven years is a strong statement of will.

One of the largest investors in renewables, the UAE, would investigate all joint venture opportunities with India.

There is time much to be done in the renewable energy sector till the next COP

This year, the UAE, a big OPEC oil exporter, will host the COP28 climate conference in Dubai from November 30 to December 12. It will be the second Arab nation to achieve so after Egypt in 2022.

The summit will be the first international evaluation of progress made since the historic Paris Agreement to reduce global warming in 2015.

Jaber reaffirmed on Wednesday that he will preserve the summit’s main focus on keeping global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

It is absolutely necessary to maintain 1.5, he stated.

The Paris Agreement commits countries to limit the average global temperature increase to well below 2 degrees Celsius and aims for 1.5 degrees Celsius, which, according to scientists, may cause even more severe climate change effects.

How Paris Agreement is important for the renewable energy

Considering its goals, the Paris Agreement is crucial for the development and growth of renewable energy.

It encourages countries to increase the use of renewable energy from renewable sources such as solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and biomass. Also, the Paris Agreement promotes the transfer of technology and knowledge to developing countries. That will help them increase their use of renewable energy sources. Developed countries have encouragement in providing financial and technological support for helping them invest in renewable technologies.

The Paris Agreement has helped to increase worldwide investment in renewable energy. The growth of renewable energy rises in part by the increasing affordability of renewable technologies, as well as the policies and regulations put in place by countries to promote renewable energy.

UAE will listen to both NGOs and the business community

Jaber vowed he will influence the conference’s agenda and global negotiations as COP28 president, keeping in mind the Paris Agreement aims to create a favorable regulatory environment for renewable energy technology and investment in renewables.

ADNOC, the state-owned oil firm of the United Arab Emirates, is also led by him. Activists’ concerns that big business is undermining efforts to address global warming have grown due to his nomination.

In the months leading up to COP28, Jaber promised to keep listening to everyone and interacting with them, including members of civil society and the business community.

Let’s not lose sight of the fact that cooperation, not polarization, is how the world advances.
