Perovskites, mineral materials composed of calcium titanate, are valuable for making high-efficiency solar cells. While teams of scientists and engineers worldwide have been developing and testing perovskite solar cells in the lab, large-scale outdoor testing of these cells has yet to occur.

Attijariwafa Bank to Finance EMEA Solar Plant in Morocco

EMEA Power, a Dubai-based clean energy producer, said its latest green energy venture in Morocco is being funded by Attijariwafa Bank, the country’s largest banking group, MWN reported. In cooperation with GPM Holding, EMEA Power has already begun construction work on a $37 million solar plant in Northern Morocco.

The 34 MW solar plant is EMEA Power’s first project in Morocco. Once commissioned, the solar power plant is expected to produce around 66,149 MWh of electricity per year, enough to meet the energy needs of more than 19,200 people.

Back in April, EMEA Power announced that it had won a tender for constructing two solar power plants from the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) and the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development of Morocco. The two solar power plants will produce a total of 72 MW.

The tender is part of the Noor PV II program, the second phase of a large-scale government program to strengthen green energy production capacity in Morocco.

Under the program, Morocco aims to achieve a total solar power generation capacity of 330 MW from various locations.

Morocco has “established itself as a regional leader in clean energy by promoting large-scale renewable energy projects,” EMEA said in a statement following the tender.
