German Company Creates Electric Van That Recharges from the Sun

Sono Motors from Germany showed the serial version of the inexpensive electric minivan Sion. It can be recharged both from a socket and from the Sun: solar panels are integrated into the body, including 456 half-cells. The initial cost is 25.1 thousand euros, although earlier it was about 16 thousand.

A 54-kilowatt battery will allow buyers to drive up to 270 km on a single charge, and solar panels in clear weather will add another 35 km. The creators assure that the owners will be able to carry out most of the bodywork and repair work themselves: the manufacturer will issue the necessary instructions.

Replenishing 80% of the energy reserve from the fast charging station (CCS) will take only 35 minutes, 100% – 59 minutes.

From a household network, the battery will be charged up to 80% in 12.5 hours, from a Type 2 device in 4 hours, and up to 100% in 5 hours. The electric car can give energy to external consumers through the Sono Wallbox charging terminal.

Front drive. The three-phase electric motor produces 163 hp. s., accelerates the car to “hundreds” in 9 s and allows you to dial 140 km / h.

Two displays are installed on the front panel – virtual tidy and touchscreen multimedia systems. The package includes a single-zone air conditioning system, heated front seats, power windows, a rear-view camera, and so on.
