An international scientific team, with the participation of scientists from the University of MISIS, has synthesized an effective industrial catalyst to produce biofuels, making it possible to obtain it faster and at low temperatures, the Asian Journal of Chemistry reported.

Biodiesel Consumption Rises 6.3% in H1 of 2022

Approximately 1.23 million tonnes of biodiesel and hydrotreated vegetable oil were used for blending in the first six months of this year, which represents an increase of 6.3% from the same time last year.

Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (eng. Agricultural Market Information Society) reports that during this time, the market for diesel climbed 1.6% to 15.15 million tonnes.

Between January and June 2022, the average biodiesel/HVO integration ratio was 7.5%. About 12% more bioethanol was used in 2022 than in 2021, totaling 573,520 tonnes. The use of gasoline (E5/E10) grew by 7% over the same time frame.

The amount of biodiesel consumed in June 2022 fell by 5% from the previous month to 195,000 tonnes. In the year-over-year comparison, this resulted in a significant drop of 8.7%. Some 2.7 million tonnes of fuel were used in June of this year.

Despite being 14% higher than the previous month, the volume was 6% lower than it was the year before. As a consequence, the integration rate decreased dramatically to 6.7%, which is significantly lower than the half-year average and the rate of 8% that was seen in June 2021.

In June 2022, the consumption of bioethanol kept declining. Consumption fell 3.4% from the prior month to 90,910 tonnes.

Although it was 2.8% lower than in June 2021, the percentage of bioethanol in blends declined by 5.6%. However, compared to the previous month, ETBE uses increased by 18.3%. In spite of this, the volume was 31% lower than the year before.
