European Commission Allocates €5.6 Billion for the Development of Wind Energy Farms

The European Commission has allocated €5.6 billion for the development of offshore wind energy farms to ensure the energy security of the European Union, the head of the EC Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement.

“The European Commission has allocated €5.6 billion from the EU Next Generation Fund to finance the development of offshore wind farms to guarantee the EU’s independence from Russian energy sources,” said von der Leyen.

In addition, the EU authorities also intend to “dramatically” reduce the time for issuing permits for projects related to developing renewable energy sources, including the construction of wind energy farms.

According to the head of the European Commission, reforming the electricity market in the EU countries is necessary to stabilize energy prices in several European countries.

“We are 27 countries, and we can always compensate for the lack of energy,” concluded von der Leyen.

On August 29, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that an emergency reform of the European electricity market is being prepared in the context of the energy crisis.

EU officials previously also stated that the Union needs a new market model for electricity that will work and bring the European economy back into balance.
