Weather Threatens to Deepen Energy Crisis in Germany

A new threat to the energy security and ongoing energy crisis of the first European economy could once again be the weather, or to be more precise, the lack of wind.

Electricity generation from wind energy will drop sharply during the next week due to very light winds that meteorologists predict in the coming days.

History is repeating itself just like last year, considerably shaking faith in the possibility and correctness of a rapid transition from fossil fuels and the transition to renewable energy sources.

One of them is wind energy, in which Germany is the leader in Europe. Last year, experts said that weak winds were one of the reasons for the energy crisis in Europe that began in late summer and early autumn.

According to Bloomberg, a sharp decline in wind energy production is expected in Germany in the first week of July, which, as you might guess, will further complicate the already difficult situation in the energy sector.

The recent reduction by Gazprom for technical reasons by 60% of the volume of gas supplied through the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline and its closure for scheduled maintenance during the second half of July caused panic in Germany and neighboring countries.

The meteorological forecast for the next week led to another increase in gas prices – on June 29, it rose by 3% and almost returned to the March anti-record.

The energy crisis is no better in other European countries, and for example, in France, whose energy balance is dominated by nuclear energy, more than half of the 56 reactors are out of operation due to protracted maintenance.

Moreover, experts agree with gloomy forecasts and expect further deterioration.
