Amazon Inc Launches 37 New Renewable Energy Projects

Amazon inc is launching 37 new renewable energy projects around the world, the company said in a statement.

The new projects increase the capacity of Amazon’s renewable energy portfolio by almost 30%, from 12.2 gigawatts (GW) to 15.7 GW, and bring the total number of renewable energy projects to 310 across 19 countries.

An additional 3.5 GW of clean energy from new projects will help the company meet its carbon zero transition commitments.

Projects will be launched in the US, Spain, France, Australia, Canada, India, Japan and the United Arab Emirates.

Two months ago, the company launched a new 10 megawatt Amazon solar power plant in South Africa in the Northern Cape province.

The power plant is expected to produce up to 28,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable energy per year soon, equivalent to more than 8,000 average South African homes.

The power plant consists of more than 24,000 double-sided solar panels and covers an area of 20 hectares. The project will avoid approximately 25,000 tons of carbon emissions per year, the equivalent of removing 5,400 cars from the roads in South Africa.
