Australian Company Uses Hemp Biomass in 3D Printing

Australian company Mirreco is developing a 3D printing process that uses hemp biomass as a material to make wall panels.

With cannabis legalization spreading rapidly in many parts of the world, even the 3D printing industry has found ways to use this controversial material.

Hemp biomass could be used to produce clothing, food, and even building materials. Mirreco has already designed a device to process this plant material, removing seeds and fibers from it.

By combining this cannabis processing technique and additive printing, the production of durable building panels can be obtained.

Therefore, materials containing hemp biomass could be actively used in the process of building residential buildings. To do this, Mirreco partnered with Australian architectural firm Arcforms.

Mirreco says the new product is structurally simple to manufacture and has superior thermal performance compared to traditional building materials. Not only walls but also roofs and floors can be built from hemp.

At the same time, plant biomass is suitable for producing building panels in both residential and commercial buildings.
