Suzuki Increases Use of Renewable Energy at India Plant

In May 2022, Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited (SMG), Suzuki’s Indian subsidiary, became the first Suzuki Group company to purchase electricity from off-site renewable sources using the Off-site Corporate PPA scheme and increase the subsequent use of renewable energy.

The power plant, a 17.6 MW hybrid wind and solar energy, was explicitly installed for SMG by ReNew Power Private Limited, a prominent Indian renewable energy company.

SMG plans to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 59,000 tons per year through this initiative. At the same time, the solar power plant, already installed on SMG territory in 2018, currently generates 0.5 MW of energy.

The Indian subsidiary of Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has already been using electricity from renewable energy sources since 2014, installing a solar power plant at its Manesar plant.

In September 2021, MSIL increased its generation capacity from 20 MW to 26.3 MW. With this, the company expects to reduce CO2 emissions by around 20,000 tons per year thanks to the use of renewable energy.

In the medium term, Suzuki aims to achieve “zero” CO2 emissions from manufacturing by 2050.

In line with global environmental trends, the company will continue to reduce CO2 emissions by expanding the sources, promoting energy savings and implementing daily development activities.
