Dutch startup Squad Mobility launched its first model, the Squad supercompact city electric car, to serial production with a novelty that includes a solar panel mounted on the roof.
The car occupies only 2.4 square meters of space on the road. The wheels are spaced at the corners, which gives maximum space in the cabin. Squad can be double or with a back seat, designed for two children up to 1.25 meters tall.
The layout of the supercompact is thought out so that the owner can quickly change the batteries for the solar panel for those already charged at unique self-service stations or take them with him to connect them to the 220 V network at home or in the office.
On one charge Squad travels a maximum of 100 kilometers. In summer, up to 20 kilometers can add solar panels on the roof, and the top speed is limited to 45 km/h.
The maximum amount of luggage space reaches 243 liters, if one folds the right passenger seat. With a double layout, the volume is reduced to 168 liters.
The body is a frame made of aluminum pipes, on which external plastic panels are attached. Moreover, the doors are classified as paid options, as in Renault Twizy, and all optics are LED.
The basic version will be sold for 6250 euros, the maximum configuration will cost 9300 euros. Squad will also be offered by subscription and car-sharing operators. So far, the car is only available in the Netherlands, but plans include expanding the geography of sales.
