Lightsource BP

Lightsource BP: Bright and light just as the sun can be

Lightsource BP is a British company that is one of the largest solar developers. Actually, in 2018 it was No. 1 in Europe and No. 3 worldwide (China is not counted here). And this success followed only after eight years after the company’s beginnings. They founded the company named Lightsource Renewable Energy.

Its headquarters are in London. But also has offices around the world, such as in Madrid, Milan, Athens, Amsterdam, Bath, Belfast, and Dublin in Europe; San Francisco and Philadelphia in the U.S.; Mumbai and New Delhi in Idia; Cairo in Egypt, and Melbourne in Australia.

Lightsource BP has around 350 employees. And yes, as a good deal of may ask, BP is a parent company owning 50% of Lightsource BP. Actually, it’s good news. It means BP recognizes the power of renewable sources. And it certainly means that – only one year after being established as a company, Lightsource BP made its first solar park in Truro, Cornwall, England. It was a job well done since they built a solar park consisting of 5,000 solar panels that are capable of generating enough electricity to supply around 430 households nearby.

Lightsource BP has a quality, and the sun is the witness

Sign and seal of the quality of their products is rooftop solar panel installation at Bentley Motors’s factory. Would Bentley buy low-quality stuff? Nope. It would not. So probably that was a sign for BP to think a bit greener for a better future for the next generations. They signed the deal after Lightsource BP made a solar panel system powering the Belfast International Airport.

BP bought 43% of the stake in Lightsource BP – then known as Lightsource Renewable Energy. That was in 2017. Well, a bit later, BP thought it was a good idea to invest a bit more because – who knows, maybe the oil will vanish one day, but the sun will always be here.

It’s not always about money, it’s about the future

Internet smartasses always react on social media when some big oil company buys a green energy-producing company, or – in this case – invests in a company that installs sun-powered solar parks around the world. ‘They want it all,’ they say. IDK, if you ask me (you probably won’t, but…) it’s always a good idea when big oil companies think smart. In this case, green. Would you prefer fossil fuels forever? Well, in such a case, having in mind the climate condition of our only planet, that ‘forever’ is not that far, far away. Thus, it’s not always about money.

Lightsource BP: Let the sun shines over India

Here is a good green project that enables cheaper energy using the sun’s power.

Lightsource BP established EverSource Capital in 2018 in collaboration with Everstone Group to create a powerful fund management platform for green energy infrastructure in India. The Green Growth Equity Fund, which has a fundraising goal of £500 million and joint anchor investments from the UK Government and India’s National Investment and Infrastructure Fund with a pledge of £120 million each, served as EverSource Capital’s inaugural fund.

Can you imagine how much money this fund made by Lightsource BP raised? Almost $800 million! This makes it the biggest-ever climate fund for that part of the world. And, plus, United Nations’ Green Climate Fund invested here too. This makes the first private-sector fund backed by the UN. Why? India is one of the most polluted countries in the world. Why? Because of the economy. It’s not modern, and it seemed nobody cared until Lightsource BP started to care. The logic is – you can’t put pollution somewhere there behind some far border. The Lightsource BP initiative is going to be strongly impactful for the Indian economy. Thus, it will be impactful on the overall climate condition in the world.

If you ask me (you probably won’t, but…)

If you ask me (you probably won’t, but…) I always ‘vote’ for green energy. If you have a lot of sunny days – use it. The energy transition is a must, or else. And if you talk about money, you better buy quality once. I’m not a city mayor, so IDK, but if I were I know what I will choose for my community. Lightsource BP is first on my list, but let’s see the competition too.
